A day after the consumer price index (CPI) jumped 0.9 percent in June to 5.4 percent over the last 12 months Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell spent two-days in front of Congress to take questions from Democrats and Republicans about inflation. Bloomberg reports that critics, “say inflation is being fanned by the Fed holding interest rates near zero while buying $120 billion of Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities every month.”
